Chesapeake Bay Bass Fishing Report 5/2/15:

Bass fishing on the Chesapeake bay has been extremely good in recent years. With warmer spring time air temps and sunshine heating up the Chesapeake bay water temps to preferred spawning temps. I came into this DBN tournament with one place in mind. The game plan was to go to Lloyd's a well know spawning area and hopefully load up the boat with HUGE Chesapeake Bay largemouth bass in the 7 lb - 9 lb range.

How HOT has largemouth bass fishing been on the Chesapeake bay lately you ask? In two recent tournaments the 1st place finisher came into the scales with
24.60 lbs with 5.74 lb kicker and 27.21 lbs with 7.84 lb kicker respectively. Of course, the exact location a method in which they caught those OUTSTANDING bags of fish remain closely guarded secrets by there owners.

What's not a secret is where largemouth bass come to spawn year after year on the Chesapeake Bay. I'm not a betting man but my money is on a place like Lloyd's to produce such a AWESOME limit of fish. Sure, Turners Creek, Swan Creek the Susquehanna Flats and Northeast River have to be in the BIG spawning fish conversation. However, my gut told me to head to Lloyd's today. After all history was on my side, Lloyd's has a reputation for producing MONSTER largemouth bass in the spring time.

Water temps were 56 - 64 today with a falling tide. I went straight to Lloyd's in the morning after blast off. I fished there for a few hours then reluctantly headed further up the Sassafras River to fish a marina that I have had some good day's of fishing in the past.

Boat traffic was heavy in and around the marina by the time I got there. I fished the marina but in the end my mind was set on catching them stacked up in Lloyd's, so I made the decision to go back and try Lloyd's once the tide fell a little and the sun had a chance to do it's part in warming up the water. Up until that point no fish where in the livewell. Shortly after arriving back at Lloyd's my partner caught two keepers one on a crankbait and one on a worm.

Best Baits Used: Crankbait and Texas Rigged Stick Bait

Thank you for reading my Chesapeake Bay Bass Fishing Report!!! I did not have a good day on the Chesapeake Bay today but don't let that stop you from getting out there and catching some the HOTTEST largemouth bass fishing in the country. The B.A.S.S. ELITE Series and Gambler Lures NO ENTRY FEE tournaments are coming to the Chesapeake Bay this season and GREAT largemouth bass fishing is the main attraction.

I drove right past Turners Creek, arguably one the Chesapeake Bay's BEST spawning spots for BIG largemouth bass twice in this tournament without fishing it either time. If I could do it over I would have fished Turners Creek after leaving Lloyd's the first time.
