Today's Chesapeake Bay Bass Fishing Report is from a Delaware Bass Federation open team buddy tournament that I fished on May 4th, 2014. We put in at Turners Creek located on the Sassafras River and headed out towards the the Susquehanna flats. The wind was light and the water was calm first thing in the morning. The day started off good with a 4 lb bass that we caught on a shallow running crankbait during our first few cast. After a short time, me and my partner (Dad) decided to head over to the back channel to do some fishing. We arrived at the back channel after a short run powered by my Mercury 250 HP outboard motor and found our best success using a wacky soft plastic stick bait similar to the Gambler Ace. Our BIGGEST bass in the back channel was in the 3 lb - 4 lb range.

The fish took me around a log and managed to get off. We landed several other bass in the back channel on a shallow running crankbait along with the Eco Pro Tungsten shakey head w/ Gambler Webo Worm combination but they did not measure 15''." - Melvin Smitson

The wind started kicking up out on the Chesapeake so we went to Furnace Bay looking for protected areas to fish. We used Rat-L-Traps and Gambler Heavy Cover Swimjigs while in Furnace Bay with no luck. We closed out the day by fishing in Mills Creek and Swans Creek, before heading back a crossed the Chesapeake Bay to weigh in at Turners Creek. This was no small task, winds had reached 30 mph and 3 - 5 ft waves were crashing over the front of the boat along the way.

Our total weight for today was 7 lbs . 85 ozs and our BIG fish was 4 lbs .26 ozs
