Today's Nanticoke river bass fishing report is from the tournament that I fished 4/18/15 put on by the rapidly growing Delaware Bass Federation Nation trail. An eye popping 35 bass boats showed up at this open buddy tournament, almost triple last years average boats per tournament. Anglers were in for a treat after an extended fog delay in the morning. The weather could not have been nicer for the remainder of the tournament, 80 degrees and sunny! While low tide was expected to be around 11:30 am.

My game plan headed into this tournament was simple, head north on the main river to Seaford and fish my way back south to the ramp in Broad Creek as the tide went out. With overnight air temps in the 60's and water temps in the 63 - 67 degree range, I decided to focus on shallow area of 3 feet or less for the majority of the tournament. The brighter the sun got the shallower I found myself fishing. With all the bulk heads, docks and lay downs in the area, I thought for sure that a wacky worm would get the job done today. The ripping tide had other ideas and one point I was throwing a half ounce jig and never felt the bottom once during my cast.

After throwing Gambler Ace, Gambler Burner Craw, War Eagle Spinner Bait, Bladed Swim Jig, Swim Jig and Suspending Jerk Bait. I did manage to land a bass on a Rat-L-Trap ECHO 1.75 Square Bill Crank Bait and my partner caught one on a worm. Both bass were under today's 15 inch limit. The Crankbait fish was in 8 ft of water. I threw the crankbait in and started cranking and BANG! She came up and smacked it like a fright train. The worm fish was caught in 5 - 6 ft of water with gravel bottom, 30 ft drop off and dock pilings present.

If I could do one thing different?

I would have fished marinas, holes and pits where the tide was not as strong.
