Nanticoke River bass fishing report DBFN Championship Oct 4th 2014
Hello Bass Fishing Fans! In this Nanticoke River bass fishing report we find that a combination of moon phase, heavy winds, rain and Nanticoke River tide cycles had anglers scrambling for answers most of the day. This Nanticoke River championship tested the best teams that Delaware Bass Federation Nation had to offer and the Nanticoke River came out on top.
"All of the docks we targeted were flooded over or getting that way. We had a flood tide in the morning followed by a brief outgoing tide then the wind and tide got together. After that the bite was finished. The water started ripping in like there was no tomorrow. Once the water came back in, all of my bites turned off like a light switch." - Zeko Shoes Pro Melvin Smitson
Mother nature did not stop there as Autumn leaves littered the river surface and had acorns falling out of the trees by the hundreds. Acorns were hitting the water so often Team Smitson reported that "It sounded like we were in the middle of a firing range out there with so many acorns hitting the water one after another."
Fishing was not the best it's been on the Nanticoke River by most reports but the fish were biting well enough to give Melvin a chance to win the title. Bigger bass were hanging close to structure as a large cold front came swooping in during the tournament.
"I don't know what happened out there today. I was definitely focused on winning the Championship title, maybe the tuff conditions got the best of me. We had 5 pounds in the boat and I lost a nice 2 lb - 3 lb largemouth bass early on a shakey head. Then I lost two more largemouth bass in 2 lb - 3 lb range on a wacky worm as the day went bye. Coming into this tournament I thought 15 lbs might win it. After we got back to weigh - in. I realized just what had happened, I choked, plain and simple." - Said Melvin.
Team Smitson reveled that all of there fish were being hooked with soft plastics out on the Nanticoke River. While crankbaits, topwaters and other swimming baits did not pan out for them. The 1st place team in this Nanticoke River bass fishing tournament had 10 or 11 pounds. The biggest fish of the tournament was in the 4 - 5 pound range rumored to be caught on a topwater frog.
