I was totally fired up heading into this Potomac River event on sat. Went out and caught a bunch of nice bass in the weeks leading up to this event and some of them were GIANTS !!!
My mind was made up and I had a game plan set in stone. I knew where I was going to go, I knew what I was going to throw and I was convinced I had this one in the bag! The only thing I did not know is what sized check I would be cashing after the day was through.

"Potomac River tomorrow going to Rat-L-Trap beat down.
Look out big girls here I come."
All that sounded great until the evening before the tournament.
That's when things got a little crazy...
High winds, rain and tornado watches for most of Maryland were forecast for early evening up to take off time the next morning. That's when clouds of doubt seeped into my golden approach. As it turned out, I got paired up with a co - angler that had never fished the Walmart BFL before.
My first thought was man I can teach him a lot about the Potomac river on his maiden voyage. Boy was I wrong my Co-Angler wound up cashing a $1,125.00 check and finishing in 2nd place with 5 fish and 15 lbs 01 oz. ( HEY DUDE THAT'S MY DREAM !!!)
The Rat-L-Trap bite was slow in the area we were targeting. So I switched to a Buckeye Jwill 1/2 oz jig and caught a few under 12'' and one keeper over 15''. My other 3 keepers for the day came on a bladed swimming jig.
Overall my co - angler and I had a very good day catching 30 - 40 largemouth bass. A majority of our bites came on soft plastic stick baits both weighted and un weighted. ( Tungsten Weights )
"I have never caught this many big bass on 1 day in my life" ~ Said Smitson's Co - Angler Aaron Bond who finished just .09 oz short of winning the Potomac River Walmart bass fishing league tournament on 04/20/13.
I admit it I got schooled ( 65th place finish ), the lesson:
