Wicomico River Bass Fishing Report 3rd Place For Smitson:
Today's Wicomico River bass fishing report finds Local Pro Melvin Smitson and his partner (Dad) finishing in 3rd place! Delaware Bass Federation Nation hosted this tournament on the Wicomico River and saw 15 boats compete for the best 5 bass limit that they could produce.
Melvin attributes today's placement to an early 2nd boat take off position and a wacky worm.
"We had our limit before 7:10 AM using the wacky worm. I landed a 10 incher on a shallow running crankbait and my partner (Dad) added a 12 incher on a weightless Texas rigged soft plastic stick bait. That was our day."
1st Place came in to the scales today with 13 pounds while the Wicomico River waters were muddy. However, that did not keep 1 BIG bass from biting. One fortunate angler landed a 5 pound largemouth but could not find a limit to go with it.
The 3rd place team of Melvin Smitson and his partner (Dad) said that they headed just a short distance from the Wicomico River boat ramp located in Salisbury, Maryland first thing in the morning. While catching 8 largemouth bass today on a outgoing tide. Their biggest bass weighed in at 3 pounds .50 Ounces.
"My partner and I found some clearer waters to fish and noticed a few huge schools of shad swimming nearby. Any time the shads would get near a dock or hard structure we would just wait for the "flying bait fish signal" then just cruise in with the trusty Motor Guide to seal the deal."
Melvin's go to rod and reel combo for the event was a Okuma Helios Spinning Reel mounted on a Medium Light Action Big Bear Spinning Rod. Today, Melvin had his tournament sponsored by Zeko Shoes! Please visit

Today's 3rd place finish has moved Melvin into contention for the Delaware Bass Federation Nation Classic tournament at the end of the 2014 season.
